The Civil Recruiter
Brandon McGill is the founder of The Civil Recruiter, a niche search firm he launched about 18 months ago after deciding to bet on himself and build something of his own.
At his core, Brandon has always loved building things. He’s naturally drawn to industries where people create real, tangible impact, and that’s what originally pulled him into the world of civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering. These are the professionals designing the infrastructure that communities rely on every day, and over time, Brandon developed a genuine passion for the space and the people in it.
After several years working in recruiting, he found success, but also started to feel a growing disconnect. Much of the industry was focused on volume, quick placements, and short-term wins. Engineers were often treated like just another resume in a database, and firms were working with recruiters who didn’t really understand their world.
Brandon found himself wanting to take a different approach. He wanted to slow down, build real relationships, and be a resource to engineers, not just someone calling about a job. That meant having honest conversations about careers, compensation, growth, and long-term goals, even when there wasn’t an immediate placement on the table.
He realized that if he truly wanted to work that way, he needed to build it himself.
About a year and a half ago, he stepped out on his own and launched The Civil Recruiter. It wasn’t just about starting a business. It was about creating something from the ground up that reflected his values, his passion for the industry, and his belief that recruiting should be relationship-driven, specialized, and built on trust.
For Brandon, building The Civil Recruiter has been just like the industries he serves. It’s about laying a strong foundation, earning trust over time, and creating something that lasts.
