Sometimes the business you end up building is not the one you originally planned.
David Dickey had plenty of opportunities to stay in government contracting, including VP roles, but a conversation with his girlfriend at the time, now his wife, changed the direction of his career.
Her advice was simple:
“Why don’t you go out on your own again?”
That decision led to the creation of Patriot Group.
At first, the business was focused on government consulting. Then David connected with someone running military career events, and the company gradually transitioned into full-time recruiting.
Looking back, he is glad he followed the opportunity.
Not every successful business starts with a perfect plan.
Sometimes you start moving—and the right direction reveals itself along the way.
