How do you build trust in a market when you do not speak the local language?
Matthieu Beaurain shares what he learned while covering markets across Asia, particularly China.
His first lesson was that language was not always the barrier people assumed. Many leaders and senior professionals in international businesses spoke strong English.
But that did not remove the need for local expertise.
For Matthieu, building the right team was essential: Chinese-born, Chinese-speaking consultants who understood the market, the culture and how relationships were built.
Then came the harder part:
Time.
Trust with clients and colleagues cannot simply be accelerated because a business wants to grow quickly.
But once that trust is established, Matthieu says it becomes incredibly solid.
International expansion may begin with opportunity, but sustainable growth depends on local relationships.
