The original plan was simple:
One person would build the business while the other kept the paycheck.
Then Brooke Weinert and Tommy Weinert were both laid off at the same time.
What could have been an “oh no” moment quickly became an opportunity.
They had severance. They had already discussed starting a business. And suddenly, neither person was tied to a full-time job.
Friends encouraged them to take advantage of the freedom and travel.
Instead, Brooke and her partner decided that launching the company actually felt like the safer bet.
They kept their financial safety net, used the severance as runway, and got to work.
Within the first 48 hours, Brooke remembers sitting at their dining room table, opening a spiral notebook and saying:
“Let’s write our business plan.”
Starting a company without either person receiving a paycheck was frightening.
